10/24/07 Game 1 thoughts and Terry Francona

Game 1 thoughts and Terry Francona

"Tonight's the night, everything's gonna be alright..."

ok, no more quotes from Rod Stewart, World Series...game 1...Beckett vs. Francis...there is only ONE ACTOBER...

I like the Sox in 5 or 6 games. All the talk of what to do with Youk, Lowell, Ortiz without a DH in the games in Colorado, if they lead 2-0 going west it becomes easier to figure out depending on pitchers being faced and how the first two games go for each batter.

Do you think the Colorado defense has worked extensively on the balls hit past third that hit the shortwall in foul territory in the past day or two?

Coming up big tonight? Beckett, Ellsbury, Manny

Prediction : Sox 6 Rockies 3

Each day during the series I will try to focus on a player or two. Today I will start with manager Terry Francona.

I keep reading about his days as a player and decided to look up his stats. Over 10 seasons, he had a whopping 1731 at bats and hit a modest .274

In his next to last season I found a nugget of info. Terry Francona, lifetime OF and 1B player pitched one inning while with Milwaukee. He faced three batters, striking out 1 and pitched a 1-2-3 inning. It was in a blowout loss to Oakland in May. He had 8 strikes in 12 pitches, the other two outs were flyouts.

Perhaps we should all give him some slack now in how he manages the pitching staff. His career ERA is 0.00.

good luck tonight, may the best team win
