13-1 !
Wow, some records were set along the way to a 13-1 thumping of Colorado. The layoff really isn't something to complain about if you are a Rockie fan. The Sox and Indians finished up Sunday night so the earliest the Series could have been scheduled to start would have been Tuesday instead of Wednesday. The complaints about the off days during the series is something that can be called out but the start of the series and the 8 day layoff is a function of one team sweeping and one team going 7.
- Beckett striking out the first 4 batters and the first 5 outs, sweet. Killed all the questions about whether he would continue to dominate
- Pedroia hitting the leadoff homer in his first world series at bat, ties Don Buford for that honor (1969)
- Sox put up 3 in the first.
- Back to back wall ball doubles by Colorado keeps Beckett and the fans honest and into the game.
Much has been written about the patience of the RedSox hitters but until you see it first hand you cannot imagine the difference that they (and the Yankees for the last 10 years) have over other teams. The Rockies haven't faced a team that piles on your pitch count, waits for a mistake, pounces on the mistakes and makes you pay. I have said it previously, the Phillies and Diamondbacks are nice NL teams that both were somewhat hot down the stretch. Neither could match what the Sox have to offer.
This lineup, when clicking, tortures opposing pitching. Tortures.
Last 4 games, double digit runs, first time in the postseason history.
43-6. That is the score since they were counted out down 3-1 against the Indians.
The NL games will be different, for sure. Dice K and probably Lester will have to hit. That takes someone potent out of the lineup.
Game 2 tonight - Sox 6 Rockies 4, Papelbon with a big save to close it out.
